GoMA Outreach & Residency Project exhibitions

This exhibition will be showing work from David Shenton and Kate Charlesworth
Drawn Out & Painted Pink And work from one of the sh[OUT] outreach projects with LGBT Youth Scotland and Our Story Scotland artists Dianne Barry and Julie Ballands  - Our vivid stories

These exhibitions will be showing work from two of the sh[OUT] outreach projects.
Made in God’s Image  - Anthony Schrag & David Malone have explored faith and sexuality with members of The Metropolitain Community Church, Quest, Al Jannah Muslim Group and individuals from a range of faiths.
Rendering Gender
David Sherry has worked with Transforming Arts to explore what gender is and how it is defined.

10 September – 5 November

This exhibition will be showing work from the following sh[OUT] outreach projects: Jane MacInally has been working with groups to explore issues effecting older lesbian and bisexual women
ORIFICES (TAKE 2, 2009) - Dani Marti will showing work made during his residency with Glasgay, where he has been working with groups indentified through Gay Men’s Health.

This exhibition will be showing work from the two sh[OUT] artists in residence who have been reflecting on how disability and the BME experience adds further complexity to LGBTI identities.

Performance workshop exploring identities and storytelling using costume and performance techniques.

Beyond Drag:
an evening of entertainment: From intimate cabaret spaces, to promenade performance and main stage acts, GoMA’s nooks and crannies will reverberate with gender politics and frolics.

sh[OUT] artist Chad McCail talks about his work Spring Tree. His ambition through his work is to promote the formation of strong and loving relationships and to highlight conditions where these relationships flourish or are threatened.

As part of Refugee Week 2009, GoMA are hosting a discussion event around the themes of homecoming, identity and home, based around the Matthew Buckingham piece, Everything I Need, recently purchased by Glasgow Museums.

An event to mark the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, consisting of a screening of the Stonewall film, a fictionalised account of the riots, and a panel discussion to look at contemporary perceptions of victimhood and ask on the eve of this anniversary, what has changed?

Commemorating the Stonewall Riots, this event features and Screening of the 1995 Film ‘Stonewall’ – A fictionalized account of the Stonewall Riots. It is followed by a panel discussion features speakers from a wide range of experiences & aims to look at contemporary perceptions of LGBT ‘victimhood’. On eve of the 40th anniversary of these riots, What has changed? What perceptions do LGBTI have of themselves? What perceptions are proscribed to them? If equality is the aim, can LGBTI claim special treatment because of past experiences?

Panel:
Eleanor Kelly is the Strathclyde Police Force Diversity Inspector for LGBT and Disability issues, having taken over from Dean Pennington this month.  She is an Inspector and has served with Strathclyde for 23 years,.

Craig Hutchinson is a counsellor and psychotherapist in private practice and a Teaching Fellow in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Edinburgh. He specializes in working with trauma, sexuality and gender identity. His most recent research looked at vicarious trauma in therapists working with survivors of sexual abuse and sexual violence

David Bingham has been involved in the HIV sector for nearly 20. He is the Senior Health Promotion Specialist in the Glasgow Office and is part of the gay men’s services team.

Artist in Residence Dani Marti will talk about his forthcoming exhibition ORIFICES (TAKE 2), 2009 at GoMA and his residency involving Gay Men's Health. This talk will coincide with Dani’s film programme at GoMA.

An evening with Diane Torr

A talk and performance from internationally renowned performance artist Diane Torr. Among other investigations, she is a pioneer of drag king culture, and co-author with Professor Steve Bottoms of the forthcoming book, Performing Masculinity.
