DOUGLAS MORLAND: My work encompasses a variety of disciplines including sculpture and installation, and drawing and painting. Unexpected dialogue and meanings emerge from the juxtaposition of seemingly disparate images, elements or media – a nod to the psychoanalytic shadowplay of Surrealism. I have utilised images drawn from areas as diverse as the historical accounts of the Enlightenment pioneers of electricity, our contemporary and historical relationship with the supernatural, psychoanalysis and forensic photography. The trust and faith that we place in systems of knowledge and experience as well as ideological structures – religion, politics, science - and the frameworks they are built on, are all called into question.
