Dani Marti is currently completing a residency with GoMA, Glasgay and Men's Health. the end result of his residency will an installation at GoMA, titled ORIFICES and PIG, and an exhibition at Glasgay, INSIDEOUT, video and photography that will examine the stigma that still surrounds HIV, intimacy and sexuality in Scotland.

My practice is stimulated by what I perceive as challenges within the act of portrayal. I am fascinated by what lies behind the surface of the subject as an essence to be grasped or sought after through attempting to re-present it. The dialectic between the possibility and simultaneous hopelessness of this endeavour emerges in the abstraction of large-scale woven works, and videos that borrow from the language of documentary. The formal polarity that exists between these ways of working is the terrain on which I am ableto examine how in approaching the physical and mediated surface of information, alternate readings may be generated by the viewer.

One is drawn to a piece which is a metaphor of the human circulation system, the viewer stands looking down at the piece from above (outside area),  and from below (balcony area). The red formation hovers between notions of evolution and decay, and domesticity.  The blood  is  presented as a “beautiful” process, as almost idealistic gestures of common humanity. The viewer is presented with an organic assemblage, bringing a sense of ambivalence; conflict that seeks a balance between an adversity and seduction.  Gazing at the soft curves reminiscent of an universe of blood cells, the viewer becomes repelled yet enchanted projecting his/her own subjectivity on to the piece. There is a visual pun that expands the object out of both daily banality and art world sterility.
